The exhibition, organised by Poznań Archaeological Museumin cooperation with the Archaeology Institute, Wrocław University, shows the history of the past and present inhabitants of theAndeszone. Its aim is to bring closer the history, material and spiritual culture, customs and geographical conditions that together influenced the past and present of the people inhabiting the area. It also reveals a considerable contribution of Polish scholars into unravelling the past and understanding the present of one of the most fascinating regions of our globe. Some artefacts have never been displayed to the public before. The exhibition is accompanied by a substantial, handsomely illustrated catalogue.
The collections presented at the exhibition come from the Archaeology Institute, Wrocław University; Ethnographic Museum, Poznań (branch of the National Museum); Poznań Archaeological Museum and the private collections of J. Szykulski. The majority of artefacts originate fromPeru.
The curator of the exhibition is Małgorzata Winiarska-Kabacińska, PhD, ofPoznańArchaeologicalMuseum, and its scientific consultant is Prof. Józef Szykulski of the Chair of Stone Age Archaeology, Archaeological Institute,WrocławUniversity, an expert on pre-Columbian cultures. In 2008 he started a vast “Tambo Project” in the area of southernPeruin the Rio Tambo river basin which covers the boundary territories of south Peruvian departments ofArequipaand Moquegua. Some of the artefacts presented come from excavations carried out under the Project.
The temporary exhibition “Past and present communities of the Andes zone” will be open in PoznańArchaeologicalMuseumfrom May 17th 2013 to August 19th 2013. The event is held under the honorary patronage of Her Excellency Mrs. Martha Chavarri Dupuy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of theRepublic ofPeru toPoland.
